Songtai Mountain Scenic Area

The Songtai Mountain Scenic Area in Wenzhou has an elevation of 39 meters and covers an area of 4.23 hectares. The mountain is covered with lush pine trees, and its flat summit resembles the canopy of a pine. During the Tang Dynasty’s Yuanhe era, the Jingguang Pagoda was built here, and the mountain is also known as Jingguang Mountain. The eminent Tang Dynasty monk Master Sujue of Yongjia was buried here after his passing, and Emperor Taizong of the Song Dynasty once bestowed a plaque inscribed with "Famous Mountain of Sujue." The flat area of the mountain features the Binghu Taoist Temple and the Immortal’s Well (historically called the Upper Well, also known as the Songtai Immortal’s Well). To the east at the mountain’s base lies Jinsha Well, to the south is Miaoguo Temple, to the west is Luoxia Pool, and to the north is Pujue Nunnery. The stone steps leading up the mountain were originally funded and constructed in 1937 by Wang Zhongsheng and Fang Guanying. In the summer of 1982, overseas Chinese Pan Juanmei and some local relatives of overseas Chinese donated funds for its reconstruction. In August 1984, overseas Chinese Ren Yansong and Pan Yuanlu, residing in France, jointly built the Songlv Pavilion. The air-raid shelters at the foot of the mountain have been converted into an amusement area.
