Jingshan Zoo

Jingshan Zoo is a national AAA-level tourist attraction.

Wenzhou Zoo is located in the scenic Lianhuaxin area of Jingshan Park. The zoo site is surrounded by peaks, with verdant pines and cypresses, lush bamboo forests, and babbling streams. Wildflowers dot the hillsides, while birdsong and cicada chirps echo through the air, giving visitors a feeling of returning to nature. of 22.7 hectares, with a total investment of 37 million yuan and a construction area of 5,000 square meters. It was completed on October 1, 2000, and currently houses over 1,000 wild animals of more than 80 species. It is also the only zoo in southern Zhejiang.

The zoo is 6 kilometers from the city center and sits at an altitude of 150 meters, offering a panoramic view of Lucheng District from the heights. The animal exhibits at the zoo use a popular domestic and international display method that combines free-range enclosures with ecological cage habitats. The zoo features facilities such as the Elephant House, Hippo Pool, Tiger Mountain, Lion Garden, Bear Mountain, Deer Park, Peacock Garden, Waterfowl Lake, and Amphibian and Reptile Pavilion. It houses rare animals including Siberian tigers, African lions, elephants, giraffes, chimpanzees, gibbons, red pandas, red-crowned cranes, macaws, pythons, and crocodiles. Animal performances are held daily, showcasing captivating shows. Children can feed and pet pigeons and various small animals at the People and Animals Interaction Plaza. The zoo also offers comprehensive service facilities such as a souvenir shop, fast-food restaurant, telephone booth, and rest pavilions.

Since its opening, the zoo’s natural scenery, layout planning, architectural features, landscaping, animal exhibits, and management services have received widespread acclaim. Wenzhou Zoo has now become the largest and highest-grade comprehensive zoo in southern Zhejiang and northern Fujian, integrating functions such as sightseeing, scientific research, public education, and wildlife conservation.

Constructed as a national second-class zoo with a total investment of 37 million yuan, Wenzhou Zoo officially opened to the public during the 2000 National Day holiday. It has since introduced rare animals such as giraffes, chimpanzees, and mandrills, hosted two animal art festivals, and organized colorful science education activities focused on wildlife protection every year. These efforts have enhanced the zoo’s appeal, with visitor numbers increasing year by year. In 2004, the zoo welcomed 580,000 visitors, with ticket revenue reaching

9.158 million yuan. From January to October 2005, it received nearly 500,000 visitors, generating 9.6 million yuan in ticket sales, with total tourism revenue exceeding 100 million yuan. The zoo has received positive social feedback and achieved commendable results in both economic and social benefits.
