Former Site of the Yongjia Wartime Youth Service Corps
The Former Site of the Yongjia Wartime Youth Service Corps is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.
On August 21, 1937, Xu Xianyi, Sun ShaoKui, Hu Jing?, and others initiated the establishment of the Yongjia Wartime Youth Service Corps (abbreviated as Yongjia Youth Corps) at the Zhuoyuan Library by Jiushan River in downtown Wenzhou. Its main leadership members were all key figures from Wenzhou. The Yongjia Youth Corps set up an executive committee and democratically elected 11 executives (10月扩充为23人), with the general executives being Xu Xianyi and later Hu Jinxu. It had four internal departments: organization, propaganda, combat, and general affairs. Until it was forcibly disbanded by the Nationalist Wenzhou-Taizhou Command Headquarters at the end of 1938, the Yongjia Youth Corps remained active for one year and four months. At its peak, it had more than 8,500 members, including 10 branch corps and 48 sub-corps established in rural areas organized by district. During this time, the Yongjia Youth Corps took on responsibilities such as propaganda, first aid, inspection of enemy goods, and anti-spy/anti-collaborationist efforts, and also assisted in establishing and developing organizations such as the Student Federation and the Chinese National Liberation Vanguard. The Yongjia Youth Corps became a backbone force and the most influential anti-Japanese group in the Wenzhou area’s resistance and salvation movement.
After its establishment, the Yongjia Youth Corps published various publications and magazines such as the "Salvation Book Series," "Trends," "National Salvation Guide," "Wartime Daily," "Lifeline," "Guerrilla," and "Wartime Merchants." It organized various training sessions to cultivate outstanding cadres and collaborated with educational, cultural, military, and Wenzhou Middle School units to fight against reactionary forces.
The former site of the Yongjia Wartime Youth Service Corps is located within the Zhuoyuan Primary School in downtown Wenzhou. Its office was situated at No. 280 Kanglefang in downtown Wenzhou, originally the Lianchang Money Shop founded by Zhou Guohua, which was later sold to the Asiatic Petroleum Company. The building is a three-story brick-and-wood structure with a width of three bays, constructed in the 1920s or 1930s. It faces south and has a European Baroque-style façade with quartz sand plastering.
