The Wenzhou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is a classic red tourism destination and a base for patriotic education.

Southern Zhejiang (Wenzhou) is a land with a glorious revolutionary tradition. As early as during the May Fourth Movement, the people of Wenzhou actively participated in the patriotic struggle against imperialism and feudalism. In 1924, the local Communist Party organization in Wenzhou was established, leading the masses in the national revolutionary movement. Shortly after the failure of the Great Revolution, armed uprisings of peasants in southern Zhejiang arose one after another, and on this basis, the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army was established, igniting fierce flames of revolution across the land of southern Zhejiang. After the Chinese Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army Advance Detachment entered Zhejiang, it joined forces with local revolutionary groups to establish the guerrilla base in southern Zhejiang, set up a Soviet government, and carried out land reform, making southern Zhejiang an important strategic stronghold of the Chinese revolution in the south. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the southern Zhejiang Party organization held high the banner of the Anti-Japanese National United Front, launched vigorous anti-Japanese salvation movements, formed armed forces, and waged anti-Japanese guerrilla warfare until the victory of the war. During the Liberation War, the southern Zhejiang Party organization vigorously developed the people’s armed forces, extensively conducted guerrilla warfare, continuously consolidated and expanded the guerrilla bases, and at the same time strengthened its leadership over patriotic student movements, forming a second front. Under the victorious advance of the People’s Liberation Army across the Yangtze River, the southern Zhejiang people’s armed forces liberated the entire mainland of southern Zhejiang, making due contributions to the founding of New China. To promote the revolutionary spirit, in 1999, based on proposals from deputies of the second session of the 9th Municipal People's Congress and members of the second session of the 7th Municipal CPPCC, as well as suggestions from veteran comrades from southern Zhejiang in Hangzhou, the Wenzhou Municipal Committee of the CPC decided to transform the original site of the Wenzhou Museum into the Wenzhou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall.

The Wenzhou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is located on Jiangxin Island, a scenic spot in downtown Wenzhou. It was completed and opened to the public in May 2008. The memorial hall covers an area of 1,800 square meters, with a construction area of over 1,700 square meters. Its exhibition halls are divided into four sections corresponding to the periods of the Party’s founding and the Great Revolution, the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the Liberation War, featuring a total of 15 thematic displays. These include 551 revolutionary struggle-related photos and 208 cultural relics. The exhibition also employs modern display techniques such as scene reconstructions, holographic imaging, and suspended imaging to vividly and comprehensively present the splendid history of the New Democratic Revolution in southern Zhejiang.

The Wenzhou Revolutionary History Memorial Hall is a patriotic education base and a Party history education base of Zhejiang Province, as well as a moral education base for minors in Wenzhou.
