Tian tangtou Revolutionary Memorial Park

Tian tangtou Revolutionary Memorial Park is a classic red tourism destination.

Tian tangtou Village was one of the main areas of activity for our Party in southern Zhejiang during the democratic revolution. With its lush forests and remote location, it was an ideal place for revolutionary activities and once served as one of the headquarters of the Yongjia County Committee. In 1928, the CPC Yongjia County Committee established a revolutionary base in Tian tangtou Village and formed a Red Army guerrilla unit. More than 80 people from Tian tangtou and surrounding villages joined the Communist Party, and over 90 joined the Red Army guerrilla forces. These guerrillas were later incorporated into the 8th Company of the 3rd Battalion of the 1st Regiment of the 13th Army of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army. In 1930, they participated in attacks on Jinyun and Ouqu in Yongjia, which alarmed the reactionary Kuomintang forces. The Red Army base in Tian tangtou was repeatedly subjected to fierce “encirclement and suppression.” In July 1931, the Red Army company prepared to march to the revolutionary base in Jiangxi but was intercepted and surrounded by Kuomintang troops in Qingtian while en route. The company fought fiercely to break through, suffering heavy casualties. In May 1932, after the struggles of the 13th Red Army suffered setbacks, 10 Red Army soldiers from Tian tangtou Village gave their precious lives for the revolution.

From 1947 to 1949, as the revolutionary situation evolved, the CPC Yongjia County Committee recruited more than 100 militiamen in Tian tangtou Village. On February 24, 1949, the Kuomintang mobilized over 500 local security forces to launch a pincer attack from the north and south against the Yongjia County Committee headquarters stationed in Tian tangtou Village. To ensure the safe evacuation of the committee, the county guard unit and the 13th District Unit fought the enemy fiercely for over five hours. Eventually, the enemy was repelled, and the committee evacuated safely, though seven soldiers were killed in battle. Before liberation, this area witnessed seven battles, with over 500 civilian houses burned down and more than 50 revolutionary soldiers and civilians killed, including 14 martyrs from Aodi Township.

Tian tangtou Revolutionary Memorial Park is located at the southern end of Tian tangtou Village in Aodi Township, western Lucheng, covering an area of over 3,500 square meters. It was built with an investment of 750,000 yuan and was inaugurated on May 10, 2004.

The memorial park consists of a monument square and a memorial hall. The monument square is a raised activity area about 5 meters high, created by filling earth and stones, covering 3,400 square meters, and divided into three sections: a transition area, an activity area, and a memorial area. The monument stands 6.55 meters tall, with its inscription “Tian tangtou Revolutionary Monument” written by Liu Xirong, former Deputy Secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection. The base of the monument is 42 cm high, 112 cm wide, and 152 cm long, inscribed with the glorious history of the people’s revolutionary struggle in Tian tangtou. The Tian tangtou Revolutionary Memorial Hall (Exhibition Room) covers an area of 87 square meters. Inside, it is divided into two parts: a mural exhibition and display cabinets showcasing revolutionary artifacts. The murals depict events of the battles and key figures involved. Seven display cabinets exhibit revolutionary artifacts such as weapons used in battle, personal items of soldiers, and production tools.

Tian tangtou Revolutionary Memorial Park is a Wenzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a Wenzhou Municipal Patriotic Education Base.
