Tomb of Wang Pei

The Tomb of Wang Pei is a cultural relic protection unit of Wenzhou City.

The Tomb of Wang Pei is located on the western mountainside of the northwest part of Fenglin’ao Village, Shangshu Township, Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. Due to ground subsidence, the exact location of the tomb chamber is currently unknown. Based on the position of the liberation pond and the stone statues, it is roughly determined that the tomb faces west with its back to the east. To the west lies a roughly circular liberation pond. About 16 meters on either side of the pond, and 8 meters apart from north to south, there is currently one stone general on each side, both lying on the ground with broken arms beside them and clean breaks at the stumps. Thirty-one meters west of the liberation pond lies a fallen stone beast, missing its front limbs and with damage to its shoulders. According to villagers, there were originally other stone statues in the area, but they were buried underground during the production team period of the 1960s. Another theory suggests that this tomb belongs to Zhang Cong. The Tomb of Wang Pei was once listed as a cultural heritage site by Ouhai County but has since been delisted. Wang Pei (1485–1558), styled Zida and also known as Renshan, was a native of Xincheng, Yongzhong Subdistrict, Longwan District. During the Jiajing era of the Ming Dynasty, when large numbers of Japanese pirates landed along the southeastern coast, Wang Pei organized volunteer forces to resist them and became a renowned anti-pirate hero.
