Wenzhou Dengyun Bridge

The Wenzhou Dengyun Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Wenzhou City.

The Xiechi Dengyun Bridge is situated at the eastern end of Fuxue Lane in Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It was originally the necessary route to reach Liuyun Pavilion on Jigushan Mountain, hence the name Dengyun Bridge. Oriented from east to west, it is a five-span pier-type beam bridge. The piers are constructed by stacking strip stones and block stones in layered, alternating patterns. Each bridge span is covered with eight granite stone slabs, and the southern face of the middle span is inscribed in relief with twelve characters: “Reconstructed in the Year of Xinhai, Wanli Era, by Local Gentry.” The bridge is flanked by bluestone railings, featuring square lotus-petal-shaped balusters. Between the balusters are long stone rails supported by vertical posts in the middle. The Xiechi Dengyun Bridge is one of the few ancient bridges preserved within Wenzhou’s old city area and holds significant historical and artistic value.
