Hu Residence on Qifeng Lane

The Hu Residence on Qifeng Lane is a cultural relic protection unit of Wenzhou City.

The Hu Family Residence, located at No. 60 Qifeng Lane in Lucheng District, faces south and is separated from Qifeng Lane and the neighboring residences to the south by a front courtyard. It features a bluestone-paved ground and is a three-bay, two-story building with front and rear corridors. Its façade decoration combines Western Baroque style with Gothic elements. The central bay has an outer gate surround, and both the first and second-floor outer corridors are fitted with bluestone railings. The second floor is equipped with imitation Western Ionic columns, and the windows are framed with semi-circular arches, featuring a prominent keystone in the center. The roof of the building is topped with a unified large cornice adorned with dentil molding, above which are decorative balustrades in the form of vases created with typical Baroque scrolls. The front corridor section is rendered with quartz sand and divided by horizontal string courses, while the remaining walls are constructed with a layered mix of red and bluestone bricks. All doors and windows feature Gothic pointed arches, interspersed with scrollwork window decorations.

The Hu Family Residence on Qifeng Lane is said to have been the home of Hu Zongnan (1896–2002), Chiang Kai-shek’s chief of staff.
