Sianqiao Bridge

Sianqiao Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Zhejiang Province.

Sianqiao Bridge is located in Sian Village, Tengqiao Town, Lucheng District. Built during the Southern Song Dynasty, it runs from north to south and spans the Shupu River. It was named after its location in front of Longquan Temple. The bridge is a three-span beam-type stone bridge, with a span of 33.3 meters and a width of 3.9 meters. Each span has five straight stone beams laid side by side. On both sides of the bridge, inscriptions in intaglio are vertically carved: “Initiated in the winter of 1172 (the eighth year of the Qiandao era), by monk Qianbiao of Longquan Temple”; “Recorded in the first month of 1179 (the sixth year of the Chunxi era), by stonemason You Cheng of Guangyang.” The characters are about one foot in size and clearly legible. The bridge piers are built with block stones, extending three meters outward at both ends to form triangular shapes. This raft-shaped design helps divert water flow during tides, reducing the impact of currents. The bridge is a mid-level flood bridge without railings; during high tides, river water flows freely across the bridge surface.

Tengqiao Town: In 1949, it was called Nanya Township; in 1958, it was changed to a commune; in 1983, it was divided into Tengqiao and Nanya Townships; in 1984, Tengqiao Township was upgraded to a town; in 1992, Nanya Township was merged into Tengqiao Town. It is located in the northwest part of the district, covering an area of 55 square kilometers with a population of 25,000. The highway from Wenzhou to Zeya runs through the town with a station, and there is a branch line leading to Aodi. The Shupu River is navigable at high tide.
