Tian tangtou Revolutionary Site

The Tian tangtou Revolutionary Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Wenzhou City.

The Tian tangtou Revolutionary Site is located in the central part of Tian tangtou Village, Aodi Township. It still preserves the former sites of activities by the 13th Red Army and the Yongjia Temporary County Committee.

The building that was the site of the 13th Red Army’s activities is built against the mountain. Originally a five-bay, two-story, cantilever-style structure with a mixed stone and wood construction, it covers a construction area of 416.4 square meters, with a total width of 17.9 meters and an approximate depth of 11.63 meters, facing south. Later, one additional bay and a kitchen were added next to the north side’s end bay and behind the middle bay. The building materials are natural, the craftsmanship is rough, and the form is simple and rather arbitrary.

The site of the Yongjia Temporary County Committee’s activities is also built against the mountain. It is a five-bay, two-story, cantilever-style stone and wood structure, covering a construction area of 422 square meters, with a total width of 18.1 meters and an approximate depth of 11.58 meters, facing south.

During the “Second Revolutionary Civil War,” the “War of Resistance Against Japan,” and the “Liberation War,” Tian tangtou was one of the fundamental areas where the Chinese Communist Party persisted in revolutionary struggle in southern Zhejiang for a long time. It has a long, arduous, and moving history of revolutionary struggle. The Zhejiang South Special Committee, the Yongjia County Committee, and combat troops all once took refuge and rested here. From 1930 to 1949, fierce battles took place in and around the village. Since 1927, a cumulative total of 465 houses were burned down, and 41 people were killed. Many villagers joined the Red Army and formed a guerrilla company, which was later incorporated into the “Supplementary Company of a Certain Battalion of the First Independent Regiment of the Red Army in Southern Zhejiang.” The Tian tangtou Revolutionary Site holds significant value and meaning for the study of the revolutionary history of southern Zhejiang. In 2000, it was listed as part of the second batch of cultural relic protection units in Ouhai District, and in 2005, it was announced as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural relic protection units in Wenzhou City.

Protected Area: The boundary extends 5 meters outward from the house foundation in the southeast and northwest directions; it extends 2 meters outward from the outer wall of the house in the northeast and southwest directions.

Building Control Zone: For the site of the 13th Red Army’s activities: the boundary extends 50 meters outward from the protected area line; for the site of the Yongjia Temporary County Committee’s activities: the southeast side extends to the road, while the other three sides extend 50 meters outward from the protected area line.
