Former Site of the Prefectural Government at Qiao Tower

The Former Site of the Prefectural Government at Qiao Tower is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The former site of the prefectural government is located within Guangchang Road Primary School at No. 76, Guangchang Road, Guangchang Road Community, Wuma Subdistrict, Lucheng District, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. The surviving structures include the gate tower and the alarm tower. It faces south. The gate tower was built in the 1930s, with a width of five bays, and is a two-story brick structure with a hip-and-gable roof. The central bay on the first floor is open as an arched gateway, serving as the entrance to the former site. Each bay is supported by brick pillars. The eaves feature decorative elements in the style of the early Republican period. The alarm tower is seven stories high and has a square brick structure. Floors one through six have brick walls with windows on all four sides. The seventh floor is an observation deck, open on all sides with railings and a flat roof. The north wall on the first floor has a door leading into the tower, and the stairs on each floor are made of wood. Since the establishment of Yongjia Commandery City in the first year of the Taiping era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the former site has served as the commandery government office, prefectural government office, and other administrative offices. In August 2005, it was designated as part of the fifth batch of municipal-level cultural heritage protection units by the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government.
