Huyu Bridge

Huyu Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Wenzhou City.

Huyu Bridge is located on the Shanqian River in the Shanqian Community, Wenzhou City, Zhejiang Province. It spans the Shanqian River from north to south in a three-span beam style. The bridge has an overall length of 13.28 meters and a width of 2.61 meters. Each span features five stone slabs laid side by side in a row, engraved with geometric anti-slip patterns. Railings are installed on both sides in the form of dougong-style balusters. The bridge piers have four square stone columns per span, topped with cap beams that support the bridge deck. Inscriptions are carved on the exterior sides of the central span’s east and west slabs. The eastern side reads, “Huyu Bridge, funded by local resident Lin □□, whose son, the imperial scholar Yuan Gui, donated ten taels to assist in the construction...”, while the western side says, “Reconstructed on the auspicious day of the Chrysanthemum Month, Gengchen Year (1700) of the Kangxi reign in the Qing Dynasty.” Other inscriptions on the bridge piers include “□ Ten Niang donated seven strings of cash to make one pillar □,” and “Disciple Xu Ziju and his wife, Lady Wang the Ninth, donated cash....” These inscriptions indicate that the bridge was originally built during the Song Dynasty and rebuilt in the early Qing Dynasty, making it one of the city’s typical ancient bridges. In 2000, it was listed as part of the fourth batch of cultural relic protection units in Wenzhou City.
