Wenzhou Mochi Pond

Wenzhou Mochi Pond is a cultural heritage site protected at the municipal level in Wenzhou.

Mochi Pond is located in the eastern part of Wenzhou's old city, on the western side of Huagai Mountain, beside the west gate inside the compound of No. 1 Mochi Fang, where the Civil Affairs Bureau of Lucheng District and other organizations are situated. Legend has it that in the third year of the Yonghe era during the Eastern Jin Dynasty (347), Wang Xizhi served as the prefect of Yongjia Commandery. He practiced calligraphy by the pond and washed his inkstones in it, hence the name Mochi (Ink) Pond.

The pond is roughly square-shaped, with a small rectangular protrusion on the south side facing the southwest corner. It features a neatly built stone-faced pond, originally with a layer of granite coping stones along the edge. A row of enclosed granite railings and panels stood atop the stones, and the water remains clear and cool.

In 1992, Mochi Pond was listed as part of the third batch of municipal-level cultural heritage sites in Wenzhou.
