The Front Hall of Tianhou Palace

The Front Hall of Tianhou Palace is a Wenzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Unit.

The Front Hall of Tianhou Palace on Martyrs' Road is located within Martyrs' Road Primary School at No. 124 Martyrs' Road, Lucheng District, Wenzhou City. Built in the first year of the Qianlong reign (1730) by merchants from Tingzhou, it was dedicated to the sea goddess Mazu (Lin Mo). The structure features stone pillars, wooden beams, double eaves, and a hip-and-gable roof. It faces south and sits atop a 0.35-meter-high platform. The step coping stones and steep slabs are all made of bluestone, with neatly arranged rectangular stone slabs paving the ground. Although the width appears to be a single bay, two additional bluestone pillars are added to the front facade to create the appearance of three bays. The main pillars are carved with coiled golden dragons using the relief carving technique. The beam structure combines raised-beam and through-tenon styles, while the roof features a square-grid ceiling adorned with painted figures and floral-bird motifs. A wooden railing base is situated between the upper and lower eaves, designed in the form of an elevated platform. The wing corners are raised using both old and young brackets, a feature quite typical among ancient buildings in our city. In August 1985, the Wenzhou Municipal People's Government designated it as part of the second batch of Wenzhou Municipal Cultural Relics Protection Units.

Protected Area: On the southwest and northeast sides, the boundary extends two meters outward from the front hall’s platform; on the southeast side, it extends three meters outward from the platform; the northwest side includes the main hall building of Tianhou Palace.

Building Control Zone: Extends five meters outward on both sides of the main hall; extends to Cuiwei Mountain (elevation 20 meters) behind the main hall; extends fourteen meters forward from the front hall.
