Monument to the Four Martyrs of the Liu Family

The Monument to the Four Martyrs of the Liu Family is a classic red tourism site.

Liu Suzhen (June 1876 – July 1936), female, was from Tangping Village, Nanyuan Township, Taishun County. In early 1934, she became the head of the Tangping courier station under both the Fushou County and Shoutai County Committees of the Chinese Communist Party. Disguised as a ferrywoman, she fearlessly devoted herself to the revolutionary cause. In July 1936, while protecting wounded Red Army soldiers during their relocation, she heroically sacrificed her life at Wubuxi. Her eldest son, Qian Yongliu, born in 1897, was a courier for the Tai Dong District Committee of the CCP; her second son, Qian Yongqu, born in 1902, was a committee member of the Tai Dong District Committee; and her third son, Qian Yongpin, born in 1912, was a member of the Fushou County guerrilla unit. All three sons died as martyrs in 1936. The story of the four martyrs from one family spread across the Zhejiang–Fujian border region at the time, inspiring the people of Nanyuan Township and surrounding areas to bravely continue their involvement in the revolution.

The Monument to the Four Martyrs of the Liu Family is located in Tangping Village, Nanyuan Township, Taishun County. In October 1996, the Tangping Village Committee of Nanyuan Township built the monument on a scenic hillside in the martyrs’ hometown to commemorate the Liu family and promote the fearless spirit of the revolutionary martyrs. The monument covers an area of 30 square meters, with a base area of 2 square meters and a height of 3 meters. Every year on Tomb-Sweeping Day, as well as on important memorial days such as “July 1” and “October 1,” nearby Party members, residents, and students come to pay tribute to this heroic mother and her sons, receiving patriotic education.
