Monument to the Red Fortress Village Behind the Mountain

The Monument to the Red Fortress Village Behind the Mountain is a classic site of red tourism.

Shanhòu Village in Jiufēng Township, Tàishùn County, was a renowned red fortress village in southern Zhejiang during the New Democratic Revolution period. From November 1935 to May 1949, the central county committee of the Chinese Communist Party in Rǔipíng-Tài, the Tàipíng District Committee, the Zhèmǐn Border District Committee, the Zhèmǐn Border Central County Committee, and the Tàishùn County Committee successively established their headquarters in Shanhòu Village. Revolutionary predecessors such as Liú Yīng, Lóng Yuè, Zhèng Dānfǔ, and Chén Huī all left glorious footprints here. Since its establishment in April 1936, the Shanhòu Village Party Branch united the masses and fought bravely, composing one moving revolutionary anthem after another. Martyrs such as Shī Guāngzé, Shī Guāngwǔ, Shī Guāngguì, Shī Guāngliè, Shī Shídìng, and Shī Guāngjiàn emerged. For fourteen years, the people of Shanhòu Village held high the red flag without faltering—their loyalty grew ever stronger, their resolve ever firmer, and they remain forever respected by later generations.

The Monument to the Red Fortress Village Behind the Mountain is located in Shanhòu Village, Jiufēng Township, Tàishùn County, and was completed in April 1997. The monument covers an area of 40 square meters, stands 3 meters tall, and is designed in the shape of the Chinese character "垒" (meaning “fortification”). Its inscription was penned by renowned Wenzhou calligrapher and painter Lín Jiàndān.
