Rebuilt Monument to the 19th Red Army Division

The Rebuilt Monument to the 19th Red Army Division is a classic site of red tourism.

The 19th Division of the Seventh Red Army Corps of the Chinese Workers' and Peasants' Red Army was a main division of the Central Red Army's Northern Expeditionary Advance Force against Japan in 1934. In early 1935, after the defeat in the battle at Huaiyushan, Jiangxi, the surviving members of the 19th Red Army Division and other commanders formed the Red Army Advance Division and entered Zhejiang. At the end of January 1937, the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area and the Red Army Advance Division regrouped their forces in Fengwen Village. Due to the rapid development of local armed forces, Liu Ying and Su Yu decided to rebuild the 19th Red Army Division. The rebuilt 19th Red Army Division consisted of three regiments and one directly affiliated training unit. The division commander was Luo Liansheng, commander of the Southern Zhejiang Military Sub-district, and the political commissar was Xie Wenqing, secretary of the Southern Zhejiang Special Committee. After the Battle of Fengwen in February 1937, the main officers of the 19th Red Army Division moved with the provincial committee headquarters to Zeng’ou in Yucang Mountain. On the 20th of that month, the 19th Red Army Division was surrounded by the Nationalist army. During the breakout, Division Commander Luo Liansheng was wounded and captured, and later defected. The designation of the 19th Red Army Division was also abolished. Although the rebuilt 19th Red Army Division existed for only a short time, it was a significant move by the Provisional Provincial Committee of the Chinese Communist Party for the Fujian-Zhejiang Border Area at the time.

The Rebuilt Monument to the 19th Red Army Division is located in Fengwen Village, Fengwen Township, Taishun County. In July 2001, the People’s Government of Fengwen Township built the monument on a site covering an area of 15 square meters.
