Taishun City Assault and Reinforcement Interception Monument

The Taishun City Assault and Reinforcement Interception Monument is a classic site of red tourism.

On the night of February 17, 1949, the First and Third Platoons of the First Detachment of the Southern Zhejiang Guerrilla Column, along with the Second and Third County Squads of Southern Zhejiang, the Third Sub-unit of the Prefectural Committee Guard, and the Guard Squad of Qingjingli County Committee, among others, jointly launched an assault on Taishun County. In the early hours of the 18th, the Nationalist defenders retreated to Beidiao, and the guerrillas occupied the urban area. Subsequently, the assault troops were ordered to withdraw from the county town and set up an ambush position at Nanshan Lingtou, delivering a fatal blow to the Third Battalion of the Second Regiment of the Zhejiang Security Forces that came to reinforce. After more than two hours of fierce fighting, 45 enemy soldiers were killed, 19 wounded, and over 100 captured. The guerrillas also seized two 60mm mortars, one heavy machine gun, twelve light machine guns, 116 rifles, seven pistols, one signal pistol, as well as a batch of ammunition and military supplies. Over 100 fleeing enemy remnants were completely disarmed and captured by local militias and revolutionary masses in northeastern Taishun. The Battle of Taishun City Assault and Reinforcement Interception was a significant military operation carried out by the armed forces of Southern Zhejiang during the Liberation War period and stands as one of the finest examples of assault, annihilation, and consecutive combat operations in the guerrilla warfare of Southern Zhejiang. The participating troops were commended by the East China Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party and the Min-Zhe-Jiang Regional Party Committee.

The Taishun City Assault and Reinforcement Interception Monument is located beside the old Provincial Highway 58 in Nanshan Village, Luoyang Town, Taishun County, covering an area of 15 square meters, with the monument itself standing 1.8 meters tall. In July 2001, several veterans who had taken part in the battle took the lead in raising funds to construct the monument near the original battlefield site.
