The Uprising at Lingshangwan Revolutionary Memorial Park

The Lingshangwan Revolutionary Memorial Park Uprising is a classic red tourism attraction.

After the establishment of the Soviet Government of Eastern Fujian in February 1934, the CCP organizations in Eastern Fujian began to expand into Taishun. Zhouling Township in Taishun County borders Shouning and Fu'an in Eastern Fujian, so the CCP organizations from Eastern Fujian first started their activities in this area. In March of that year, the First District (Hanci) of the Fu-Shou County Committee of the CCP established the first party branch within Taishun — the Lingshangwan Branch — in Shangzhuang Village, Zhouling Township, with Lei Deru as the secretary. In the same month, the Soviet Government of Fu-Shou County set up the first red political organization in Taishun — the Lingshangwan Soviet Government — with Wei Chaojin as chairman. The Lingshangwan Branch and the Soviet Government were placed under the leadership of the Tai East District. In May 1935, the Tai East District formed a guerrilla unit with Pan Shilong as captain and over 70 members. From then on, the Lingshangwan Party organization shifted from covert operations to open resistance against the enemy, and through actions such as targeting local tyrants, redistributing land, and burning enemy blockhouses, it became a reliable rear base for the Soviet Area of Eastern Fujian. Especially after August 1935, the Red Army and local guerrillas from Eastern Fujian repeatedly entered this region to fight, dismantling 28 blockhouses built by the Kuomintang along the Shou-Tai border and completely destroying the defensive lines erected by the Kuomintang troops and reactionary landlords and local tyrants. In 1936, due to severe damage to the Soviet Area of Eastern Fujian, some organizations and leaders from Eastern Fujian moved to this area, marking the peak of revolutionary struggle here. Most local people joined the revolution and benefited from the revolutionary gains of redistributing crops and land. However, after January 1937, this area suffered multiple “cleansing” campaigns by the Kuomintang army, and local revolutionary masses paid a huge sacrifice — in Zhouling Township alone, 52 revolutionary martyrs lost their lives.

Lingshangwan Revolutionary Memorial Park is located in Shangzhuang Village, Zhouling Township, Taishun County, and was opened to the public in 2004. The park covers an area of over 100 acres and includes the former site of the Lingshangwan Soviet Government, the Lingshangwan Revolutionary Monument, and the Martyrs’ Wall. The site where the Lingshangwan Soviet Government was established is a two-story wooden house with five bays. The second floor houses the exhibition hall of the Lingshangwan Revolutionary History Memorial Museum, with the name inscribed by veteran Red Army soldier Zhang Wenbi.

Lingshangwan Revolutionary Memorial Park is a patriotic education base in Wenzhou City.
