Taishun County Martyrs' Cemetery
The Taishun County Martyrs' Cemetery is a cultural tourism attraction and a classic red tourism destination.
Taishun County is a veteran revolutionary base area. In 1923, Lin Bingquan, a young man from Taishun, joined the Communist Party of China while studying in Shanghai. During the Agrarian Revolutionary War, the CPC Zhejiang Provincial Committee sent personnel to carry out revolutionary activities in Taishun and later organized a peasant armed force of over 800 people there; party organizations in Fujian Province also successively conducted activities in the border areas of Taishun. During the three-year guerrilla war in southern Zhejiang, Taishun County was an important base for the Red Army Advance Division, the Provisional Provincial Committee of the CPC for Fujian-Zhejiang Border Areas, and the Special Committee of the CPC for Southern Zhejiang. During the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Liberation War, and the period of socialist construction, the people of Taishun made significant contributions to the revolutionary cause and paid a great price, with 494 individuals being honored as martyrs.
The Taishun County Martyrs' Cemetery is located in Xiayang Village, Luoyang Town, Taishun County. It was built in December 1957. Between 1984 and 1989, the Taishun County Government expanded and renovated the cemetery. It now covers an area of 6,750 square meters. The cemetery complex consists of three levels: upon entering the gate and crossing the road between two lotus ponds, visitors ascend steps to reach the first-level platform. Walking along the path flanked by cypress and cedar trees at the ends of the platform, you will find a red octagonal pavilion with ethnic architectural features on each side. Further up is the second, more spacious platform, which serves as a space for memorial ceremonies and paying respects. The third level is another platform where a 13-meter-high Monument to Revolutionary Martyrs stands. The front of the monument bears eight gilded characters in Mao Zedong’s handwriting: “Eternal Glory to the People's Heroes.” At the top of the monument is a fluttering red flag. The base of the monument is inscribed with calligraphy from leaders who once fought in Taishun, including Su Yu, Ye Fei, Fan Shiping, Long Yue, and Zheng Danfu. Descending the steps behind the monument, you will find a cemetery arranged in a “品”-shaped layout across two levels, where martyrs who sacrificed their lives during the revolutionary war and the period of socialist construction are laid to rest.
The Taishun County Martyrs' Cemetery is a Taishun County Cultural Relics Protection Unit and a County Patriotic Education Base.
