Baike Bay Battle Site

The Baike Bay Battle Site is a cultural tourism attraction.

The Baike Bay Battle, also known as the San Tiao Gang Battle, was one of the more famous battles fought by the Red Army Advance Division in Taishun.

On February 7, 1936, Su Yu and Liu Ying led the Third Column (Fourth and Fifth Detachments) of the Red Army Advance Division, along with divisional headquarters, a heavy machine gun squad, a guard unit, and over 200 personnel in total. They traveled from Shantown in Wencheng County through Fengwen Township and Song?? Township’s Lingjiashan Village to set up camp in Baike Bay Village, Jiufeng Township, for rest and reorganization. Before lunch on the third day, a messenger reported that the Third Squadron of the Tenth Battalion of the Nationalist Zhejiang Security Regiment had descended from Jiufeng Village and had reached Qianpingzi Village. Su and Liu resolutely decided to assemble their troops. After a brief pre-battle speech by Liu Ying, Su Yu issued combat orders: the guard squad would stay behind in Baike Bay Village; the Fourth Detachment would ambush on the left slope of the hill along the enemy’s approach route; the Fifth Detachment would take position on the hill opposite the paddy fields, laying in wait from higher ground to launch a pincer attack. A heavy machine gun shot would serve as the signal to engage. Soon after, the enemy indeed walked into the Red Army’s ambush. At Su Yu’s command, the heavy machine gun opened fire with a rapid rat-tat-tat. The enemy’s advance squad was quickly wiped out, and the following troops fell into disarray, firing wildly without clear targets. After nearly an hour of fighting, the enemy soldiers began to surrender, laying down their weapons and raising their hands. In this battle, 27 enemy troops including the squadron leader were killed, 80 were captured, and one light machine gun along with over 80 rifles were seized. Learning that their Third Squadron had been completely annihilated, the other two squadrons of the Tenth Battalion fled in panic toward Juluo in Cangnan County.

The Baike Bay Battle Site is located in Qianpingzi Village, Jiufeng Township, Taishun County. This historic site has been under the protection of the local township government. To this day, the site and its surroundings remain free of any construction and retain their original appearance from that time.
