Former Site of the Establishment of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee

The Former Site of the Establishment of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee is a cultural relic protection unit of Pingyang County and a classic red tourism attraction.

Xiaonanshan Village in Fengwen Township, Pingyang County, was a guerrilla base jointly established by the CPC Mindong Special Committee and the Red Army Advance Division during the Agrarian Revolutionary War. In March 1936, the main force of the Red Army Advance Division, which had been active in this area for nearly half a year, along with the provisional provincial committee of the CPC for the Fujian-Zhejiang border region, decided to establish the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee in order to effectively unify the leadership of various local party organizations originally created by the Mindong side and those newly established by the provisional provincial committee. Zheng Zongyu from the Mindong Special Committee was appointed as the secretary of the Zhejiang South Special Committee. After its establishment, the Zhejiang South Special Committee continuously expanded and consolidated the base area, covering counties including Pingyang, Pingyin (including Cangnan), Wencheng, and Fuding. In March 1938, after the Red Army Advance Division was reorganized into the New Fourth Army and marched north to resist Japan, the headquarters of the Zhejiang South Special Committee moved to Wencheng and Ruian, where it continued to lead the revolutionary activities of the people of Zhejiang South until the entire region was liberated.

The Former Site of the Establishment of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee is located in Xiaonanshan Village, Fengwen Township, Pingyang County. It is an eight-room single-story traditional dwelling with a construction area of 320 square meters. In August 1996, the local government built a monument commemorating the establishment of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee on the hill behind the site. The monument covers an area of 300 square meters, stands 13 meters tall, and features the inscription “Monument to the Establishment of the CPC Zhejiang South Special Committee” on the front, while the back bears the eight characters “Carry Forward the Glorious Revolutionary Traditions” handwritten by Ye Fei, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. The pedestal of the monument is inscribed with a commemorative text. In October 2009, the local government also constructed a memorial museum at the village. This two-story building has a construction area of 350 square meters, with the second-floor exhibition hall displaying over 100 related photos and historical materials.
