Ancient Residential Houses at Anqian

The ancient residential houses at Anqian are a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Zhejiang Province.

The ancient residential houses at Anqian are located in Anqian Village, Sankui Town, Taishun County, and were built in the mid-Qing Dynasty. Built against the mountains, they feature an uneven yet harmonious layout, covering an area of over 2,000 square meters. Among them, the “Nine-Bay” and “Seven-Bay” residences are the most representative. The Nine-Bay house faces southwest from the northeast and consists of side gates, a courtyard, and a main hall. The main hall has two stories with fourteen bays under double eaves, divided into seven bays on the left and six on the right along the central axis, with a depth of seven columns and nine rafters, and a suspended gable roof. The Seven-Bay house faces north from the south and consists of a gate tower, a main hall, and wing rooms on both sides. The gate tower is a double-winged hip-and-gable roof gate with three stone steps outside. The main hall has nine bays over two stories, featuring circular pattern window decorations, a covered corridor, and a suspended gable roof.
