Yuyan Rock Carvings

The Yuyan Rock Carvings are a cultural relic protection unit of Taishun County.

The Yuyan Rock Carvings are located in Yuyan Village, Sixi Town, Taishun County. There are two inscriptions here, about 4 meters apart, with clear lettering. The eastern inscription features a horizontal engraving at the top reading “Bao Gong’s Tomb Path” (包公墓道), with characters measuring 0.27 meters in length and 0.23 meters in width; the lower part has two vertical lines of text: “Principle is the greatest, to win the hearts of all under heaven” (道理最大，以服天下之人) and “Doing good is the greatest joy, and also a long-term plan for one’s descendants” (为善最乐，亦为子孙长久之计). The signature reads “Erected by Jing Shan in the third year of the Wanli era of the Great Ming (1575)” (大明万历三年(1575)静山立). The western inscription is a couplet: “The Yuyan cliff roars like a bell, echoed by the peak mountain’s grotto-heaven” (玉岩钟吼水，尖山应洞天). The characters are 0.15 cm in size. According to *The Gazetteer of Taishun Administrative Divisions* (*Taishun Fenjiang Lu*), “On the cliff of Yuyan in Sixi, Taishun, an inscription was engraved by a local man named Bao during the Ming Dynasty. It is in regular script, no larger than an inch, with the note beside it reading ‘engraved by Bao Jingshan in the third year of Wanli’ (actually the sixth year).”
