Ancient Yuta Kiln Site

The Ancient Yuta Kiln Site is a cultural relic protection unit of Taishun County.

The Ancient Yuta Kiln Site is located near Yuta Village in Pengxi Town, Taishun County. There are three celadon kiln sites and seven bluish-white porcelain kiln sites. The kiln beds are of the dragon kiln type, with one measuring 37.36 meters in length and 2.32 meters in width. The kiln walls were built with clay bricks, and the arched roofs were constructed from wedge-shaped bricks. The bluish-white porcelain includes bowls, plates, saucers, cups, jars, pots, bottles, lamp stands, water containers, etc. The body walls are relatively thin, the texture is fine and hard, and the color is grayish-white. The glaze is pure and translucent, with most items being plain. Decorations are limited to scrolling grass patterns and comb-tooth patterns carved inside bowls and plates, or lotus petal patterns on the outer walls. Most products feature “splayed mouths” and were fired using inverted kiln furniture. The kiln furniture includes inverted firing supports, as well as spacers and pads. The celadon items include bowls, plates, saucers, jars, pots, and lamp stands. The body walls are relatively thick, the texture is fine and hard, and the color is grayish-white. Firing period: the celadon kiln sites date back to the Northern Song Dynasty, while the bluish-white porcelain kiln sites date from the mid-to-late Northern Song to the early Southern Song Dynasty. In 1978, provincial, municipal, and county cultural relics departments conducted a joint excavation.

Yuta Village: Yuta Village is the only She ethnic minority administrative village in Pengxi Town. It is located in the southeastern part of the county, adjacent to Sujia Mountain Village in Fujian. The village covers a total area of 5 square kilometers and consists of three natural villages: Shangcuo, Xiacao, and Licuo. The village currently has 128 households and a population of 559. It is 60 kilometers from the county seat and 8 kilometers from the town government.
