Jianning Jiulong Bay Volcanic Lava Scenic Area

The Jiulong Bay Volcanic Lava Scenic Area is a volcanic lava geological park, located in XinSi Village, Dashun Township, northeastern Jianning County, bordering Liandu District of Lishui. It is 58 kilometers away from the county seat of Jianning.

The Jiulong Mountain volcanic rocks were formed during the Jurassic period, primarily consisting of the Jiuliping Formation’s effusive layered rhyolite (porphyritic) and spherulitic flow rhyolite, with some areas featuring collapse-phase rhyolitic agglomerate and breccia lava.

The park consists of three major scenic zones: Shijiangjun (Stone General), Shiguanyin (Stone Goddess of Mercy), and Shizhongfeng (Stone Bell Peak). Geological relics and scenic spots are concentrated within a 73.5-square-kilometer area spanning Shidanwan (Stone Egg Bay), Zhoushan, Lingli, Shakeng, and Pingpen. The terrain in the area is steep and deeply dissected.

The area features uniquely shaped landscapes such as Shijiangjun (Stone General), Xiannv Xianhua (Fairy Offering Flowers), Wuyin?T, Yingbin Laoren (Welcoming Elder), Woshiling (Reclining Snail Peak), Shima (Stone Horse), Shizhongfeng (Stone Bell Peak), Denver Dinosaur, and Shidan (Stone Egg). Shijiangjun is known as the “Number One in the World,” Xiannv Xianhua as the “Number One Yin Symbol,” and together with the closely associated Wuyin?T, they form the Yin-Yang Valley.

The scenic area boasts a variety of wonders including peculiar peaks, strange rocks, waterfalls, deep pools, and secluded caves, all constantly changing as you move through the landscape. The natural scenery is closely intertwined with cultural elements, while the pristine vegetation adds to the charm. Various attractions are scattered harmoniously, creating a breathtaking earthly paradise. Due to the rugged terrain, only a small number of scientific explorers have reached the area so far.
