Chimu Village is located 5.5 kilometers from the county town, bordering Dongnong Village to the east, Jinqiu Village to the west, and Huiming Temple Village to the north. Leveraging the village’s geographical advantages and excellent sea of clouds resources, and drawing on the She ethnic legend of Lady Tang transporting timber to the imperial court, the conceptual design of the Chimu Mountain She Ethnic Villages ring area positions it as a “Fairy Village.”

Chimu Village is situated at a relatively high altitude and is one of the main production areas of the Gold Award-winning Huiming Tea, with over 1,900 acres of tea plantations. The village layout is staggered and secluded, offering a tranquil retreat where visitors can enjoy the spectacular sea of clouds over Chimu Mountain. Based on the distribution of the village’s resources, the planning concept for the “Fairy Village” focuses on sightseeing and vacationing. Following a development model led by quality living, it promotes leisure tourism in the sacred mountain through the development of tourism products such as Moon-Embracing Sacred Mountain Cloud Viewing, Chimu Mountain Vacationing, and mountain climbing activities, as well as the creation of the Goddess Huize Hiking Trail. This aims to develop sacred mountain leisure vacations that, in turn, drive the integrated growth of industries such as dining, accommodation, and tea. In addition, the site of the former residence of German scholar Hans Stübel, who wrote the “Investigation Record of the She People in Chimu Mountain, Jingning, Zhejiang” on Chimu Mountain—a provincial-level key cultural relic protection unit—will be used to establish an exhibition hall showcasing the regional culture and folk customs of the She people, allowing visitors to gain an in-depth understanding of She ethnic culture.

The flagship project in the planning and design of the “Fairy Village” is the construction of the Goddess Huize Hiking Trail on Chimu Mountain. Drawing on the legend of Lady Tang transporting timber to the imperial court, the existing hiking trail on Chimu Mountain is being transformed into the Timber-Transporting Path of Lady Tang. Based on the walking distance and psychological comfort of visitors, and in consideration of the terrain, viewing and resting platforms (pavilions) are set up along both sides of the trail. Landscape features modeled on the story of Lady Tang receiving imperial recognition for transporting timber are installed along the path to create the Goddess Huize Hiking Trail, meeting visitors’ needs for rest and scenic enjoyment. Colorful tree species are also planted to create a hiking trail with varying scenery throughout the seasons. A key project in the plan is the Hans Stübel Exhibition Hall, which involves renovating the residence where he stayed while writing his investigation record on Chimu Mountain. The exhibition will display the daily life scenes of him and his students during the writing of the manuscript, as well as the characteristics of the other nine She villages around Chimu Mountain. Real objects such as old photographs and production tools will showcase the living scenes of the She people around the mountain. Multimedia displays will also be used to present the regional culture and unique folk customs of the She people, serving both to preserve She ethnic culture and promote the other She villages.

The mountaintop is cool in summer, and there are wild vegetables and fruits to pick. The fir trees at the top form a forest—it’s quite nice.
