Wuzhiyan Scenic Area

Wuzhiyan Scenic Area is located in Zhongshan Township, Yongkang City, bordering the tri-county junction of Dongyang and Yiwu. It consists of three scenic zones—Taoyan, Zhifeng, and Pingtou—covering a total area of 50.8 square kilometers, with the main peak standing at an elevation of 718 meters. Viewed from afar, Wuzhiyan resembles a giant palm reaching to the sky, while up close it looks like a massive rock blocking the path, accessible only via two steep and perilous mountain trails. Once you climb to the top, the panoramic view within a hundred miles unfolds before your eyes. To the east, west, and north, rolling peaks stretch as far as the eye can see. Watch the sunrise in the east and the sunset in the west, with drifting clouds beneath your feet and the blue sky just inches above your head. To the south, fields and villages dot the landscape, creating endless beautiful scenery.

Taoyan is located southwest of Wuzhiyan. The rock is red and white in color and shaped like a flat peach, hence the name Taoyan. Viewed from the south, Taoyan appears in front while Wuzhiyan stands behind, as if a flat peach were cradled in the palm of the five fingers. Thus, these two sights are collectively referred to as “Wuzhiyan Offering a Peach.”

Mipu Temple is situated on Mipu Mountain, commonly known as Wuzhi Pingtou, at an elevation of 660 meters. The mountaintop features a flat area spanning about a hundred meters, with diverse scenery on all sides. To the east is Wupan Peak; to the west lies the “Emperor’s Hat,” often shrouded in mist, giving it an ethereal, fairy-tale aura. To the north, mountain peaks stretch continuously. Mipu Temple was built on the northern part of the flat mountaintop and has a history of over 700 years, attracting visitors all year round.

Shiniu Mountain is located in the northwest of Wuzhiyan. The summit features a rock that resembles a cow, hence the name. At an elevation of 628 meters, it is said that the stone cow was transformed from a yellow ox. Sanjie Tower is located west of Taoyan, adjacent to Stone Monkey Rock. Its name comes from the solitary rock formation resembling a house, divided into upper, middle, and lower sections. Nearby are Monkey Rock and bamboo groves. Legend has it that the Monkey King hid ginger beneath this rock while retrieving treasures from heaven and marked the spot with bamboo, which is why Sanjie Tower is also called Ginger-Hiding Tower. The long-renowned Wuzhiyan Ginger is associated with this legend. The Pingtou area of Wuzhiyan spans dozens of acres and is covered with lush high-mountain tea trees. The site also includes various architectural complexes such as the Lord Bao Hall, Dragon King Temple, Mipu Temple’s Buddha Hall, and Mandarin Duck Pavilion.

Qidie Flying Waterfall is situated on the mountainside of Mipu Mountain and is also known as Yan Waterfall. It is divided into three tiers: the first tier has a drop of about 5 meters; the second tier has a drop of approximately 7 meters; and the third tier has the highest drop of 30 meters, making it the main waterfall. At the base of the waterfall is a pool, with the surrounding rock wall forming a hollow cave large enough to accommodate several people. It is especially cool in summer and autumn.
