Phoenix Tower, also known as the Lower Tower, has seven levels and was built on Phoenix Mountain south of Yongkang City. Inside the tower, stone steps spiral upward, allowing visitors to climb and enjoy distant views. The tower was originally constructed by monks from “Pugao Hermitage.” In late spring, young village women often came here for spring outings and sightseeing, and a folk rhyme has been passed down through the ages: “On the third day of the third month, on the eighth day of the fourth month, country girls frolic at the Lower Tower.” Town residents, on the other hand, traditionally visited the Lower Tower during the Dragon Boat Festival. The site attracted large crowds and bustled with activity. The tower collapsed in the 16th year of the Republic of China (1927) and was rebuilt in 1999.
