Yongkang City Museum

The Yongkang Museum, also known as the China Hundred Crafts Culture Museum, is situated in the core area of Yongkang's commerce, culture, education, and leisure. To the east, it stands opposite the provincial cultural relics protection site “Xu Zhen Er Gong Ci” architectural complex and Dasi Alley Primary School. To the west, it neighbors Ziwei Garden, an imitation of a Ming Dynasty-style private garden owned by Wang Chong, and the municipal library. To the south is an antique-style commercial pedestrian street, and to the north lies the municipal cultural relics protection site “Former Residence of Xu Gonglu.” Surrounded by an elegant environment and complemented by harmonious architectural styles, the Yongkang Museum building stands out as unique and refined within a tranquil cluster of classic buildings.

The Yongkang Museum is a regional comprehensive museum characterized by its focus on the culture of craftsmanship. It was put into use on September 12, 2006, with a total land area of over 6,000 square meters. The museum building is a modern structure that integrates local hardware features with classical elements, divided into five main sections: exhibition halls, cultural relics storage, office spaces, security center, and lecture hall. The exhibition halls include a permanent exhibition area, a temporary exhibition area, and a crafts display area. The museum houses a relatively rich collection, characterized by strong regional cultural elements. Its collections are categorized by stone tools, bronze ware, ironware, ceramics, others, bamboo and wood crafts, and modern items, with particularly notable pieces including primitive porcelain from the Western Zhou Dynasty, ceramics from the Wuzhou Kiln of the Han Dynasty, bronze ware from the Tang Dynasty, ceramics from the Song Dynasty, and bronze and ironware from the Qing Dynasty.

The ingenious architectural style and exhibit design of the Yongkang Museum embody the earnest social ideals of several generations of cultural heritage workers in Yongkang—dedicated to better promoting and spreading the region’s unique culture; inspiring Yongkang’s people to carry forward the pioneering spirit of fearlessness and bold exploration; creating a cultural exhibition space for Yongkang’s long-standing hardware culture and thriving hardware industry; embracing a wide array of visitors with its inclusive spirit; and looking ahead with a broader vision to the development prospects of Yongkang’s hardware industry, as well as the inheritance and evolution of its hardware culture. The museum serves as a demonstration base for social science education in Zhejiang Province, a patriotic education base in Yongkang City, a community activity hub for the Young Pioneers in Yongkang, an off-campus practice base for university students in Yongkang, and a training base for Yongkang’s Young Pioneer guides.
