Yongkang Miaoshan Site

The Yongkang Miaoshan Site is a protected cultural heritage site of Zhejiang Province.

The Miaoshan Site is located in Suxi Village, Yongkang Economic Development Zone, covering an area of 32,000 square meters. Dating back 10,000 to 9,000 years, it is the highest-altitude early Neolithic site discovered so far in central Zhejiang. Artifacts include pottery and stone tools. The pottery is mainly carbon-tempered red-slipped ware, with a small amount of sand-tempered pottery. Vessel types include wide-mouthed basins, double-handled jars, flanged jars, and ring-footed basins. A large number of stone artifacts were also unearthed, including stone grinding plates, pestles, stone balls, choppers, and flake tools. Based on expert analysis of the vessel shapes and body materials of the pottery found at the site, the Miaoshan Site is believed to belong to the early period of the "Shangshan Culture" of the Neolithic Age.
