WuXi River

The WuXi River is a national water conservancy scenic area and a national wetland park.

The WuXi River is a primary tributary of the Qu River. It originates from the mountainous region of the Xianxia Ridge in southern Quzhou, with its main source being Qingjing in Longquan, Zhejiang Province, and its secondary source being Shiziyuan in Pucheng County, Fujian Province. It flows through Longquan, Suichang, Jiangshan, and Qu County, and joins the Qu River about 3 kilometers east of Quzhou City. The river is 150 kilometers long, with a drainage area of 2,570 square kilometers. The WuXi River winds and loops through towering mountains and steep ridges. The landscape harmoniously blends mountains and water, featuring verdant peaks and clear streams. Some high-altitude areas still preserve large tracts of pristine forests, and the Jiulong Mountain Nature Reserve has been established within the upper reaches in Suichang. Additionally, in the middle and lower reaches within Jiangshan City and Qu County, there are several potential sites for establishing nature reserves. The natural environment is beautiful, with a mild climate that is warm in winter and cool in summer—very pleasant overall. There are over 50 scenic spots throughout the entire basin suitable for tourism development, and more than 10 areas that could be developed into summer retreats and health resorts.

The WuXi River Scenic Area is a one-river-two-reservoirs scenic zone centered around Hunan Town. It is located in the middle and lower reaches of the WuXi River and within Qu County, forming the most concentrated section of scenic spots. The area includes four closely connected hydroelectric reservoirs at different levels—Hunan Town, Huangtankou, Shishi, and Naqiao—as well as nearby shore regions. There are over 30 major and minor scenic spots, characterized by picturesque lake and mountain views, the majestic presence of hydroelectric stations, and opportunities for summer retreats and wellness.

Hunan Town: A town under the jurisdiction of Qu County. Established as a township in 1950, Xikou Township was merged into it in 1956, after which it was reorganized as a commune. In 1984, it reverted to township status, and then became a town in 1986. In 1992, Baiwukou Township was incorporated. Located in the southern part of the county on the western bank of the WuXi River, it covers an area of 136 square kilometers with a population of 13,000. The town is accessible via county roads and waterways. It administers 17 village committees: Hunan, Chaoshu, Zhoulong, Dongcang, Shanjian’ao, Lichun, Poshi, Gengtou, Jinjiashan, Baojiashan, Huajia, Baiwukou, Yanjiashan, Shanglv, Jiaolong, Yuandunhou, and Dongcangzhong.
