Congkou Cave Site

The Congkou Cave Site is a Zhejiang Provincial Cultural Heritage Site.

The Congkou Cave Site is located in Longxiang Village, Shangfang Town, Qujiang District. It was announced as a provincial-level cultural heritage site in January 2011. The site is composed of the Cong Cave and Guanyin Cave. The Cong Cave site is located in Congkou Natural Village, Longxiang Village, Shangfang Town, about 500 meters to the east-west from the natural village. The cave mouth is approximately 3 meters wide and 4 meters high. In 2000, the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology conducted an archaeological excavation at this site.

The Guanyin Cave site is located on an unnamed small hill about 200 meters southwest of Congkou Natural Village, Longxiang Village. The cave is about 4 meters high, 14 meters wide, and around 18 meters deep. In 2000, the Zhejiang Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology excavated a total area of about 60 square meters at this site, unearthing a significant number of animal fossils. Artifacts such as pottery fragments found inside the Cong Cave and Guanyin Cave indicate that these caves were inhabited during the Neolithic Age, approximately 6,000 years ago. Based on the relics unearthed from this site, the history of Quzhou City has been traced back to 6,000 years ago, giving the site considerable historical and archaeological value.

Longxiang Village: Located in the northern mountainous region of Qujiang District, Longxiang Village in Shangfang Town is 58 kilometers from Quzhou City and borders Chun’an County and Jiande City. It was formed by merging the former Congkou Village, Chian Village, and Jiaokeng Village, with its administrative office located in the former Congkou Village. The village governs 23 villager groups, comprising 769 households and a population of 2,532, covering an area of 18.7133 square kilometers. This includes 883 mu of arable land and 5,526 mu of forestland (of which 1,475 mu are ecological public welfare forests, over 725 mu are bamboo forests, 1,972 mu are tea plantations, and 1,354 mu are Chinese fir forests).
