Xiaohunan Covered Bridge is located in Hunan Village, Hunan Town, Qujiang District. It was designated as a county-level cultural relic protection unit in June 1996. Originally built during the Qing Dynasty’s Qianlong reign, the bridge was destroyed by fire in the eighth year of the Xianfeng era (1858) and subsequently rebuilt. It is a single-span cantilever-style wooden beam bridge, measuring 25.5 meters in length and 2.85 meters in width. The covered bridge spans the Hunan Stream, which flows from the northwest to the southeast through the southwest part of the village. The riverbanks on both sides are constructed with local river stones, and the revetments feature rows of logs arranged in four vertical and three horizontal patterns. These logs cantilever two layers toward the center of the stream to support the horizontal wooden beams of the bridge. Wooden planks are laid atop these beams to form the bridge deck. Above the bridge is a seven-bay structure with five purlins and four pillars, forming a covered walkway that combines post-and-lintel and Dougong (bracket set) construction styles. Benches are installed along both sides of the walkway for travelers to rest. Vertical lattice railings are placed between the eave posts on both sides, adorned with window panels featuring an “I” pattern design. Only the central section of the eastern side of the walkway features two shrines, while the western railing is decorated with a triple... The bridge was originally built in the... period. To the south of Xiaohunan Covered Bridge lies an ancient post road leading to the mountainous hinterlands of Wuxi River and regions such as Jiangshan and Suichang. It is an important bridge along the essential route from Quzhou city center into the heart of Jiulong Mountain, and it is also one of the few remaining ancient covered bridges in western Zhejiang. The bridge holds significant value for understanding the social, political, economic, military, and cultural aspects of the time.
