Valley Stream

At the mouth of Baidao Valley lies a very small reservoir that supplies water for villagers. Behind the reservoir are layers of towering mountains, and within the valley flows a clear stream that heads out of the village. The valley is extremely difficult to traverse.

As noted in the *Ming Records*: “The Baidao Valley Pass is where the Baidao Valley River enters the border and flows southward into a tributary of the Bai River. This pass is very remote, and in ancient times, very few people passed through here…” The right side (eastern side) of the Baidao Valley Pass features very steep mountain terrain, with perilous ravines and gullies. There are watchtowers on the mountains, and the terrain of this pass closely resembles that of the ‘Dashankou’—one of the ‘Four Passes of Qin’ located on the northern side of the Qinling Mountains in Shaanxi.
