In pursuit of the long-awaited swans and for bird photography, I visited Miyun Reservoir again yesterday (March 10, 2013) and returned with a camera full of great shots.
This day marked several firsts. First, it was the first time in 2013 that I saw swans at Miyun Reservoir; second, it was the first time I photographed an eagle catching a mouse; third, I captured a wild rabbit; fourth, I got clear shots of a pheasant; and fifth, I took clear photos of a crane. It was truly a joyful and happy day.
Upon arriving at the reservoir, I spotted a flock of birds flying over from the distant shore. They looked like swans, so I quickly raised my camera to capture the moment, though the image clarity wasn’t great.
While waiting for the swans, I noticed an eagle circling in the sky. It glided and hovered at times, then suddenly dove sharply like an arrow into the dry grass. I immediately realized there would be something to photograph, so I quickly followed and shot. Due to the distance, although I managed to get the shot, the clarity was still not high—but you could still make out that it had caught a vole.
I also managed to photograph a wild rabbit. The rabbit was extremely agile, hopping along at high speed, and with all the grass around, it was hard to get a clear shot.
On this day, I also captured clear images of a crane.
I had thought that as long as I waited patiently and stuck it out, I might have another chance to get clearer shots of the swans. With the perseverance of waiting for a rabbit by a tree stump, I stayed on guard, hoping the angelic swans would grace me with their presence once more. But I waited until the sun set and time seemed endless—yet those dreamlike swans never reappeared. And just like that, I missed my chance with the swans. Opportunities only come to those who are prepared. You may think there’s still a chance, but when it’s gone, it’s gone. Isn’t life much the same?
Although the swans didn’t return, it was still a pleasant day.
