Beacon Tower

There are currently four beacon towers standing on the foothills west of the village, locally known as the Four Towers. The architectural style of the city walls in the valley and the beacon towers atop the mountains is unique to Baidao Valley: in some areas where the terrain is too steep for wall construction, the rugged mountain ridges were used as natural barriers. This is indeed a remarkable innovation in the construction of the Great Wall—using the mountain itself as the wall.
