The Chen Family Residence is a cultural heritage site protected by Yangzhou City.

The Chen Family Residence

Located at No. 306 Guangling Road, it was built by the Chen family, timber merchants during the late Qing and early Republican period. The residence is divided into eastern and western sections. The eastern section has two courtyards: the front one is a three-bay, four-room structure with hidden rooms, featuring wing rooms on the east and west sides; the rear section is a three-room, two-wing house. The western section has three courtyards. The first two are symmetrical, three-room, one-wing houses, connected by a central courtyard; the third is a flower hall, spanning three bays in width and seven rafters in depth, with rolled shed roofs at both the front and back. The central bay features a carved wooden lattice screen with latticework ladies’ motifs, and the beams are adorned with carvings. The small front garden is paved with cobblestones and small tiles, forming a “circular longevity” (团寿) pattern. The entire architectural layout is well-balanced, with courtyards, gardens, the flower hall, and living spaces organically integrated.
