Correspondent Shao Feng) On April 29, the first Da Wangyan Mountain Climbing Challenge in Yichang will be held in Fenxiang, Yiling District. Dozens of teams and hundreds of outdoor enthusiasts are expected to compete.
The challenge is organized by the Yichang Sports Federation, and co-hosted by the Yichang Outdoor Sports and Exploration Association, the Yiling District Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau, and the Fenxiang Township Government. According to Tan Binbin, president of the Yichang Outdoor Sports and Exploration Association, the summit of Da Wangyan Peak stands at an elevation of 1,143.70 meters. This competition will be conducted in teams and divided into two categories: competitive and experience. The competitive group will climb the main peak of Da Wangyan in teams of four. The course is longer and more intense, and participants must pass through five checkpoints before heading for the finish line. These five checkpoints include three quiz stations covering wilderness self-rescue, orienteering, and local cultural and geographical knowledge, as well as two physical challenges—a log bridge and a rope net. The experience group will compete in a treasure hunt format, where teams use maps, compasses, and other tools to hike along a designated route and find all preset checkpoints to win. The course for the experience group is shorter and less physically demanding.
