A Fairyland Getaway in Tainan: Sip Coffee & Pick Fruits on a Cloud-Enshrouded Island

In Dongshan District, Tainan, a 52-hectare farm is tucked away in the mountains. During mornings, evenings, and after rain, when mystical sea of clouds drifts by, the prominent hilltops appear to float within the misty expanse, resembling solitary islands in a forgotten lake—mysterious and breathtakingly beautiful. The locals have thus nicknamed this place “Fairy Lake.”

This Fairy Lake Farm has been cultivated by the Wu family for generations. It offers a year-round feast for fruit-picking and flower-viewing. Blossoming longan flowers paint the landscape vibrantly, while midsummer is the season for harvesting lychees and longans. As autumn transitions into winter, citrus fruits like oranges take the stage. The entire hillside is also infused with the aroma of coffee. Coffee fruits are harvested from trees shaded by longans, then processed step-by-step through pulping, drying, resting, and roasting. Finally, sit at the coffee bar and enjoy a cup of Gui Milk Coffee blended with longans—a blissful and leisurely farm holiday indeed.

Established many years ago, Fairy Lake Farm has evolved from its early days of “rain-dependent farming, bamboo shoot harvesting, afforestation, charcoal burning, and dried longan production,” to today’s diverse array of locally grown fruits—“lychees, longans, i*oranges, and oranges”—as well as “estate-grown coffee.” The transformation of cultivated crops is almost a microcosm of the agricultural history of the Jianan Hills region, bearing witness to the paths carved by our ancestors. Through generations, the family owners have consistently upheld reverence and gratitude toward the land. In their development efforts, they have always proceeded with care and thoughtful consideration. Today, Fairy Lake boasts numerous well-preserved secondary forests. The three crops closely tied to human life—“longans, coffee, and wild vegetables”—are all nurtured harmlessly within this natural environment.

The founder of Fairy Lake, Mr. Wu Senfu, chose to share his idyllic living space and farming experiences with travelers. Seasonal crop production continues unabated, because the land that nurtures us—and the way people coexist with it—is the foundation of all good living.
