Nanjing Phoenix Terrace

The former site of Nanjing Phoenix Terrace is located on Phoenix Mountain in present-day Nanjing. Volume 90 of the Taiping Huanyu Ji (A Comprehensive Geography of the Taiping Era), under Jiangning County in the Eastern Jiangnan Circuit, states: "Phoenix Mountain is one li north of the county, connected to Sanjing Ridge all around, stretching all the way to Dead Horse Ravine."

The ancient Phoenix Terrace scenic area, built over the course of a year, covers an area of 22,000 square meters. Its main structure, the Phoenix Tower, stands 25 meters tall and has a floor area of 1,500 square meters. From afar, it appears majestic and imposing; up close, its carved beams and painted decorations are exquisite. Climbing to the top offers a sweeping view: to the east lies the Hexi New District, to the west the waves of the Yangtze River, to the south the lush Three Mountains, and to the north the lights of countless homes. The grandeur of the great river unfolds before your eyes—it is truly a breathtaking destination.

"On Phoenix Terrace the phoenixes come and go; / The phoenix gone, the terrace empty, the river flows." These are the elegant lines left behind by the great Tang Dynasty poet Li Bai when he visited Jinling’s Phoenix Terrace, which is how the terrace became widely renowned. However, as time has passed, the ancient Phoenix Terrace has long vanished without a trace, leaving behind only the poem and no terrace—a timeless regret. In recent years, the Yuhuatai District government of Nanjing assessed the situation and decided to recreate this unique cultural landmark. After repeated deliberations, the site was finally chosen at the head of Jiangxinzhou, where the poetic scenery of "misty hues over Three Mountains and rushing flows of two rivers" can be found.

Ascending the terrace to overlook the river allows you to experience the same scene that inspired the poet Li Bai’s line: “Three mountains half lost in the blue sky’s hue; / Two streams divide the isle where egrets fly.”

Fengyou Temple Community: Located in the old southern part of the city, Fengyou Temple Community borders Mingyang Street Scenic Boulevard to the east, Jiqing Road to the north, and is enclosed by the ancient city wall to the west and south. It covers an area of approximately 0.28 square kilometers. There are 32 residential buildings, with 2,677 registered households and a resident population of 4,960.
