Yang Hong, who has participated in various environmental volunteer activities since high school, came to Nanjing to study eight years ago. "This city is beautiful, full of greenery," said Yang Hong, who was born in 1986. From her undergraduate to graduate studies, she couldn’t bear to leave Nanjing. A year ago, after graduating with her master’s degree, she chose to stay and work at the Plant Research Institute of the Zhongshan Botanical Garden. Since then, she has become an enthusiastic “fan” of various environmental volunteer activities in Nanjing.
Not long ago, Yang Hong participated in a volunteer hiking activity organized by Xici Hutong’s ‘Journey of Love’ to explore Nanjing’s water system. "Nearly 300 volunteers hiked 15 kilometers along the Qinhuai New River, and many children persisted until the end, which moved me deeply," said Yang Hong. The city is our shared home, and it requires everyone’s conscious protection. In recent years, Nanjing has done a good job in managing its water systems, but the protection of endangered species in the Purple Mountain area and the conservation of the Yangtze finless porpoise in the Yangtze River basin still need more attention.
