Nanjing Crescent Lake Park is located in the eastern suburban scenic area of Nanjing and is named for its crescent-shaped lake. The park is a comprehensive, open landscape that integrates cultural heritage preservation, ecological restoration, and leisure activities. With a green space of 12,000 square meters, accounting for 60% of the total area, the park is planted with a variety of vegetation, such as magnolia and osmanthus trees.

Walking eastward along Yudao Street, a tall section of city wall comes into view. Both the inner and outer walls are constructed from bricks of the Ming-era city wall, restored using the “repair-as-original” method. Standing on the northern side of the park and looking toward the Qinhuai River, you’ll see the park’s landscape is well arranged, with terraced terrain designed based on the original topography, creating a multi-level sloped scenery full of depth and layers.

The ground of the park is mainly in grayish-white tones, reflecting the aesthetic of the Ming Dynasty. It is paved with various types of bluish-gray bricks, giving off an elegant, vintage Republican-era vibe. There is also a section of wall where several large stone slabs are laid out for schoolchildren to draw on. The park also features a large square, ideal for locals to exercise in the morning.

The most noteworthy sights in the park are two recently excavated bunkers from the Nanjing Defense Battle during the Republican era. According to archaeologists, this concealed wall bunker served as a defensive fortification for Chinese troops during the “Battle of Nanjing” in December 1937 and stands as a precious witness to the fierce “Battle of Guanghua Gate.”

It is reported that, following requirements from the cultural relics department, the greening authorities carried out protective burial of the bunker ruins. Reporters observed that these are two bunkers, each four meters in diameter, vertically embedded in the city wall ruins like massive cylinders, with square vertical vents spaced every two meters around them.
