Laomendong Historical Block

• A historical block showcasing the traditional residential alleys and street life of old southern Nanjing.

Introduction

Laomendong is an ancient place name in the southern part of old Nanjing, located south of the TaoHu Dungxiang Lane area. Historically, old southern Nanjing was the most commercially vibrant and densely populated district in Nanjing. Today, traditional Chinese wooden structures and horse-head walls have been rebuilt in traditional styles to restore the original appearance of old southern Nanjing.

Street Sculptures

Around the memorial archway, there are four groups of street sculptures depicting a rickshaw puller, sugar taro seedlings, an old postbox, and schoolchildren entering a hall (attending a private school). The figures are all dressed in Ming and Qing dynasty attire, vividly recreating the residential life of Laomendong during that period.

Special Tips

Laomendong Historical Block is located in the southern part of the city, very close to the Confucius Temple. You can visit the Confucius Temple and then come here for a stroll.
