Nanjing Jiulong Bridge

Nanjing Jiulong Bridge is a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

Jiulong Bridge is situated on the Qinhuai River to the west of Tongjimen Bridge on Longpan Middle Road in Qinhuai District, Nanjing, outside the site of Tongjimen, the former city gate of Ming Dynasty Nanjing. The bridge was originally built during the Ming Dynasty and was reconstructed in the 10th year of the Guangxu reign of the Qing Dynasty (1884). Because it is adjacent to Tongjimen, it is also known as Tongji Bridge. Jiulong Bridge is a five-arch stone bridge without hinges, approximately 51 meters long and 13 meters wide, with the five arches resting on four diamond-shaped cutwater piers. In the early days of the War of Resistance Against Japan, the central large arch of Jiulong Bridge was destroyed in the war and was later temporarily bridged with wooden planks. In 1966, it was restored by the municipal construction authorities, and concrete railings were added. Today, the eastern side of Jiulong Bridge faces Longpan Middle Road, the southeast side borders a control gate, and the western side is integrated with the Dongshuiguan Relics Park and the Ming city wall. Jiulong Bridge was one of the important bridges over the Qinhuai River during the Ming Dynasty and serves as a significant physical relic for studying the urban layout, water system structure, and historical development of Nanjing during that period.

In 2019, Nanjing Jiulong Bridge was included in the eighth batch of Jiangsu Provincial Cultural Relic Protection Units.
