Brief Biography: Gao Ershi (1903–1977) was from Dongtai, Jiangsu Province. Originally named Xihuang, he later changed his name to Ershi, used the pseudonym ?? in middle age, and in his later years went by Shufu. At 18, he worked as a teacher at Lida National School, and at 21 became its principal. At 25, he was admitted to Shanghai Zhengfeng Academy of Liberal Arts, and at 27, he enrolled as a graduate student in Chinese studies at the Beiping Research Academy. At 29, due to illness, he returned to his hometown as a correspondence graduate student and served as the principal of an elementary school. At 33, he was invited by Chen Shuren to serve as a clerk, section officer, and secretary at the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission of the Nationalist Government and the Legislative Yuan, respectively.
