Longdong Cliff Carvings

The Longdong Cliff Carvings are a cultural relic protection unit of Jiangsu Province.

The Longdong Cliff Carvings are located on the inner and outer walls of the Longdong Cave, as well as on the cliff face behind Longdong Nunnery, which lies to the west of Longdong Nunnery at Kongwangshan Residential Committee, Quyang Subdistrict, Haizhou District, Lianyungang City. The Longdong Cliff Carvings are divided into two parts: one set is carved on the inner and outer stone walls of the Longdong Cave, and the other is found inside Longdong Nunnery and on the cliff face behind the nunnery. There are nearly 30 carvings in total, dating from the Song Dynasty to the Republican era, with varying scripts and sizes. The carvings are rich in content, reflecting the hydrology, geography, culture, folklore, and historical sites of the ancient Haizhou region, and most of them are dated, possessing extremely high historical and scientific value. In particular, the Ming Dynasty "An Dun Inscription" explicitly records that the visitor came to the cave “to see the relics of ancient sages,” proving that the Kongwangshan Cliff Statues were discovered as early as the Ming Dynasty. Additionally, the carvings showcase a complete range of scripts and feature works by notable calligraphers, making them valuable for the study of calligraphy history. In 2002, they were designated as part of the fifth group of cultural relic protection units of Jiangsu Province.

East to Longdong Nunnery, south to 20 meters south of the Stone Toad, west to the ancient city site, north to the ancient city site.

Construction Control Zone:

Bounded by the ancient city site on the east, south, west, and north.
