Lianyungang Revolutionary Memorial Hall
The Lianyungang Revolutionary Memorial Hall is a national AAAA-level tourist attraction and a classic red tourism site.
The Lianyungang Revolutionary Memorial Hall was established in June 1987. Its original site was located at No. 23 Minzhu Middle Road, Xinpuxiang (formerly known as the Longhai Apartment), which was a high-end apartment building constructed in the early 1920s. In March 1938, Zhang Wenhai, a special envoy of the Yangtze Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, was ordered to be stationed in the military area of Xin-Hai with the 112th Regiment of the 57th Division of the Northeast Army to establish an underground CPC working committee. He resided in this apartment at that time. After the establishment of the working committee, on March 11, through the introduction of Zhang Wenhai and Liu Mansheng (Gu Mu), a member of the committee, Wan Yi, the regimental commander of the 667th Regiment of the 112th Regiment and a renowned anti-Japanese general, was recruited into the Communist Party of China as a special member. His oath of admission to the Party was taken in the Longhai Apartment.
Comrade Wan Yi made significant contributions to the War of Resistance Against Japan, the Liberation War, and the socialist revolution and construction. He served as a member of the Central Advisory Commission and as an advisor to the General Logistics Department, among other positions.
To commemorate this meaningful place, the CPC Lianyungang Municipal Committee and the People's Government of Lianyungang Municipality decided on June 6, 1987, to designate this location as the Lianyungang Revolutionary Memorial Hall.
In 1995, it was named the “Lianyungang Patriotic Education Base” by the CPC Lianyungang Municipal Committee and the Municipal People's Government. In 1997, it was designated as a “Provincial Patriotic Education Base” and a “Youth Moral Education Base” by the provincial government.
Over the years, to fully leverage its role as a provincial patriotic education base, the Revolutionary Memorial Hall has conducted various forms of patriotic and revolutionary heroism education across the city, themed around its collection of revolutionary historical materials. It has organized several large-scale citywide exhibitions, including: achievements of the 16th National Congress, local revolutionary history, the “Two Imperatives,” the spirit of Xibaipo, the spirit of Yan’an, commemorating the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Red Army’s Long March, and commemorating the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army. These exhibitions reached an audience of 100,000 people. Additionally, local history was produced into television programs, providing profound party history education to nearly 200,000 Party members across the city.
In 2009, the municipal Party committee and government decided to construct a new Revolutionary Memorial Hall on the south side of Chaoyang East Road in the Xinpuxinqu District, east of the museum.
On July 1, 2011, the new memorial hall building with a floor area of 15,000 square meters was officially completed and opened to the public.
