Tashan Ancient Trail

Tashan Ancient Trail is a cultural heritage site protected at the provincial level in Jiangsu Province.

Tashan Ancient Trail is located on Nanta Mountain, at Wuyao Neighborhood Committee, Quyang Office, Haizhou District, Lianyungang City. It runs from north to south through a lush, ancient, and tranquil valley. The trail follows the natural contours of the mountain terrain. In flat areas, it is paved with stone blocks; on slopes, steps are carved out; and on higher ridges, the path is shaped into grooves. The road is 2.6 meters wide and currently extends 450 meters. According to the stone inscription “Record of the Newly Constructed Mountain Path” located beside the trail, it was built in the second year of the Mingchang era during the Jin Dynasty (1191 AD). Tashan Ancient Trail is the only ancient path in the province with a confirmed construction date to have been discovered so far, possessing significant historical and scientific value. It was designated as one of the first batch of cultural heritage sites protected at the municipal level in Lianyungang City in 1982, and as one of the sixth batch of protected sites at the provincial level in 2006.

Quyang Subdistrict: The Quyang Subdistrict Office is located in the central area of the ancient city of Haizhou. It lies to the south of Jinping Mountain and to the north of Yudai River, neighboring the relatively large Xin Hai Power Plant in northern Jiangsu. It also hosts joint Sino-Japanese ventures such as the Suntory Beer Factory, as well as municipal enterprises and institutions including the Second and Fourth People’s Hospitals. The area offers four mountains and three rivers for sightseeing (Jinping Mountain, Kongwang Mountain, Shipeng Mountain, Baihu Mountain, Yanhe River, Qiangwei River, and Yudai River), among which the Kongwang Mountain Scenic Area and Shipeng Mountain Scenic Area are national AAA-level tourist attractions.
