Dacun and Xiaocun Sites

The Dacun and Xiaocun Sites are protected cultural heritage sites of Lianyungang City.

The Dacun and Xiaocun Sites are located at the western foot of Nanyuntai Mountain in Huaguoshan Subdistrict, Haizhou District. The site extends west to the embankment of Dacun Reservoir and is bounded by roads on the east, south, and north sides. The cultural layer of the site is over 1 meter thick, covering an area of approximately 20,000 square meters. Excavations were conducted in 1959 and 1960. Artifacts unearthed include red fine-clay pottery bowls, stone axes, and stone adzes from the Neolithic Age, as well as early Western Zhou bronze ware, cylindrical tiles from the Han Dynasty, and pottery shards from the Six Dynasties period.

The Xiaocun Site is located 1.5 kilometers north of the Dacun Site and is now part of the Xiaocun Grape Garden. Unearthed artifacts include pottery shards from the Neolithic Age, li tripod feet and dou vessel stems from the Western Zhou period, geometric-patterned pottery shards from the Warring States period, and rope-patterned tile shards from the Han Dynasty.

The 1961 sixth issue of the journal *Archaeology* published "An Investigation Report on the Neolithic Site at Dacun." It is one of China’s well-known Neolithic sites. The location is also one of the important excavation sites for Western Zhou bronze ware clusters in the province. The Dacun Site holds significant importance in both Neolithic and Shang-Zhou cultures, and has long been valued by archaeologists. It was designated as one of the first batch of protected cultural heritage sites of Lianyungang City in 1982.

Huaguoshan Subdistrict: In the 2013 administrative division adjustment, Huaguoshan Township was abolished and Huaguoshan Subdistrict Office was established. The office is located at No. 26 Huaguoshan North Road, Dacun Residential Committee, with an administrative area of 39.7 square kilometers, a population of 20,800, and jurisdiction over seven village committees—Xintan, Danglu, Feiquan, Qianjin, Xincun, Xiaocun, and Qianyun—and the Dacun Residential Committee.

Huaguoshan Subdistrict is located in the eastern suburban area of Xinpu District, Lianyungang City.
